Tips & Tricks: Interview Attire

This week we’re all about preparing your wardrobe for that big interview. Do you know what to wear? As always, you can ask your ECHO Site Coordinator or Success Coach for help, but we thought we’d put together some quick tips for the winning interview outfit.

1. A suit is the safest choice. Try to keep the colors neutral and matching if possible. Even if the job requires ‘casual attire’ wearing a suit to the interview shows that you take this job seriously!

      2.  If you would wear it to a club or a night out on the town, it is NOT appropriate for an interview.
Go for knee length skirts and dresses or long sleeve shirts and pants. Avoid showing too much skin. Wear a blazer or cardigan to cover your shoulders and chest area.

      3. Long sleeve shirts. Dark socks. Business shoes. BELTS are very important. Well-groomed facial hair and haircut. Ties are great, but make sure they are simple and not too colorful or patterned.

      4. Make sure there are NO wrinkles! If you don’t have an iron, borrow one from your neighbor!

      5. Don’t forget that your clothing makes a statement. How you dress will communicate how serious you are about the interview. Notice the details: are you missing a button? Are your pants dragging on the floor? The more you show you care about your appearance, the more the employer will feel like you are organized and prepared for the job.
