What a Catch!

What would a week of fishing be without mentioning the record breaking catches to motivate you?! We’re not sure if this is the biggest catch in the Detroit River, but it sure comes awfully close! Have any of you caught the biggest fish in Detroit? Send us a picture!

Detroit Fishing Resources

I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed more and more fisherman (and women) piled along the Detroit River lately. Perhaps its because they’re getting their feet wet for the Kids Fishing Fest coming up? Ok…maybe not, but today we gathered some cool resources to help you navigate the Detroit River just a bit better this spring.

Did you know the Michigan Free Press does a fishing report on their website? They indicate the best and worst condition for all of the fishies in the Detroit River. Yup, just go to www.freep.com and in the search box type “Michigan Fishing Report”.

Here’s an amazing article that covers all aspects of fishing on the Detroit River, but before we link it you’ve got to read this darling quote:
So, whether you are a competitor, involved in the many professional or amateur tournaments hosted on the river each year, a pleasure boater that might just want to wet a line while taking in the sun and sights out there, or any interest level in between, the Detroit River is a top notch fishery with something for everyone that wants to get out there and try it.”

Happy fishing everybody!

Unemployed? Volunteer!

One way to stay inspired while unemployed is to VOLUNTEER. Volunteering not only feels good but it can lead to a new network of people (who can then help you find work!) There are lots of ways to volunteer in Detroit. There are tons of churches, organizations, senior homes, homeless shelters, and animal shelters that could use your help! Try volunteering in a field that interests you! Not only will you learn new things, but you might find your career niche!

For help finding places that need your help, try http://www.volunteermatch.org
If you know of any organizations that need volunteers LET US KNOW! We’d love to connect some of our ECHO people with them!
